Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The Alaska State legislature showed him the money now does Alaska have the time?
The legislature included over $21 million in the proposed budget sent to the Governor for the Juneau Access Road. The Governor chose a no build option in 2016 due to the floundering economy.
The federal government would pay the lions share of the costs to build about 50 miles of road to a ferry that would take cars to Haines and Skagway.
Senator Dennis Egan said the decision to no move forward was a mistake. He told Coast Alaska News that everybody in the railbelt would like the opportunity to drive to the capital.
First Things First Alaska said a survey shows a large majority of residents support the roadway.
Opponents of the road said it would damage the ocean and shoreline. They also object to the need for a ferry for part of the drive.
