Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Martin Luther King Junior Day holiday Monday will be marked in Juneau.
Sherry Patterson is the president of the Juneau Black Awareness Association.
She says it will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church in the Valley once again. The observance is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Patterson said residents should come to remember and reflect on the life of this great man.
In conjunction with the observance is a Day of Service.
That's being coordinated by AmeriCorp Service members of which Phoenix Keane is a member. She says her group decided they wanted to hold a drive to collect items for people in shelters across Juneau. Keane says they decided feminine products, diapers and baby formula are some needed items at several non-profit organizations.
She says those items can be brought to the observance or dropped off at collection boxes around Juneau through January. Those boxes are located at the Downtown Library, the library in Douglas, Juneau Douglas High School, IGA Foodland and Super Bear.
