SEACC to watch Governor-elect Dunleavy's actions on Juneau Access

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Access Project is expected to be resurrected with the election of Republican Mike Dunleavy as Governor.

He said during the campaign that there's money earmarked for it and believes it can be resurrected by looking at some of the efficiencies that he's talked about and shifting money into capital projects  and matching that money with other funds.

Dunleavy there is such an opportunity with oil at over $70 a barrel.

A road option has been opposed from the start by the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council.

The Southeast Alaska Conservation Council opposes the road option.  Buck Lindekugal is the organization's grassroots attorney.  "They could try to give CPR to the Juneau road.  I don't think it will make a difference."  He thinks the funds could be used in better ways and cited the backlog  on bridges and road repairs

SEAC also favors increased funding for the Alaska Marine Highway.
