Board of Education selects Frank Hauser as the next Superintendent

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - On Friday, Mar. 31, the Board of Education selected Frank Hauser to be the next Superintendent of the Juneau School District.

The Board President will extend the offer to the candidate and begin negotiations on terms of a three-year contract.

The Juneau School Board held a public meeting via Zoom Friday, Mar. 31 from noon to about 12:40 p.m. to discuss and release their selection of Hauser.

He's currently the Sitka School District Superintendent.

According to his official biography provided by the Sitka School District website, he came to his chosen profession because school wasn't always easy for him. His main principle that guides his decisions as an educator is what's best for the kids. This principle has been carried through his days teaching Adaptive Aquatics as a high school lifeguard in Palmer and throughout his career.

The biography also includes information that in his 25 years in public education in Alaska, Mr. Hauser has worked in nearly every type of school, including elementary, middle, and high schools, and a K-12 optional school.

Mr. Hauser served as a music teacher, Director of Fine Arts, Assistant Principal, and Principal of Robert Service High School in the Anchorage School District before he became Superintendent of the Sitka School District.

He has previously been selected as Alaska Principal of the Year, and, by colleagues statewide, a president-elect of the Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals.

The biography also includes that Mr. Hauser serves on the board of the Southeast Regional Resource Center (SERRC).

He is a graduate of the Mat-Su School District and the University of Alaska system.

Dr. Bridget Weiss will leave her position as the JSD Superintendent on Jun. 30.
