Petersburg, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Wildlife Troopers received a report of a boat accident involving injuries that occurred last Friday, at about 2:13 p.m.

Later investigation showed 51-year-old Harry Musewski of Petersburg, was traveling south in the Wrangell Narrows.

Musewski struck a tripod-shaped navigational marker, where his 18’ Lund lodged and became stuck.

The tide was rapidly rising and due to Musewski’s injuries, he was unable to remove himself from the sinking skiff, trapped in the rising tide.

Musewski was assisted by Petersburg residents James Greenfield and Steven Miyaki who heard the collision and responded to help.

Greenfield and Miyaki removed Musewski from his sinking skiff and took him to Papkes Landing where EMS transported Musewski to the hospital.

    Musewski’s boat was later recovered.

Investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
