Libertarian Alaska House candidate files ballot complaint

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Libertarian Scott Kohlhaas, candidate for House District 16, has filed a complaint against the Alaska Division of Elections and Director Gail Fenumiai.

According to Kohlhaas, he's filed a complaint concerning Fenumiai’s decision to redesign the general election ballots which removed the title “Libertarian” next to his name on the ballot and placed “Petitioner” in its place.

"All summer and fall, I've been telling everyone in District 16 that I will be on the ballot as a Libertarian,” Kohlhaas said. “I'm fighting to keep my word, and for the Division of Elections to do their duty. The Alaska Statute calls for it, the signatures were gathered for it, it's what we want".

The complaint is similar to one filed recently by Congressional candidate Alyse Galvin. The Alaska Supreme Court rejected an appeal from Galvin to force the state to reprint its general election ballots.

Kohlhaas has also asked for a reprint of the ballots.
