Mudslides close roads on Prince of Wales Island

    Craig, Alaska (KINY) - Prince of Wales Island has at least three roads closed due to mudslides today, Craig Police Chief R.J Ely said.

    The first is on Boundary Road between mile marker eight and nine as you head between Klawock and Thorne Bay.

    A second is located on 12 mile of the Klawock Hollis Highway.

    Another road closed is St. Nick Road starting at 2.7 mile to at least mile marker six.

    Chief Ely said no vehicles were able to get through these areas at this time.

    He said he has heard reports of other slides near Hydaburg and Thorne Bay but could not confirm.

    Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Department of Transportation, and the City of Craig public works are
    working to reopen the roads.
