Sitka Police said a toddler shot off a gun as a parent slept close by

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - Sitka Police said no one was hurt after gunfire erupted in a home in the 3800 block of Halibut Point Road Sunday.

    Police responded around 4:30 pm and located two bullet holes in the drivers side door of a vehicle parked on the property.

    They knocked on the front door and were met by a toddler.  They entered the home, located an infant in a crib, and the children's father, sleeping in the rear of the residence.

    Officer said that loaded firearms had been left unsecured in the residence and that the toddler had discharged multiple rounds.  The bullets traveled through the wall of the residence and into the parked vehicle.

    Police said the incident was alcohol related.

    They have refered the findings of the case to the District Attorney's Office and the Office of Children's Services.
