Skagway, Alaska (KINY) - Skagway has adopted a shelter in place order after a COVID case was confirmed in the community most like the result of community spread.
The shelter in place is expected to last at least a week.
No group gatherings will be allowed. All contact outside the immediate family unit is to be limited.
Those exceptions include work, a doctor's appointment, or to get fresh air.
When outside the home residents are asking residents to maintain social distancing, wear cloth face coverings and practice regular handwashing.
All non-essential businesses have been closed.
Curbside pickup and delivery is available for non-critical businesses only.
Critical businesses allowed to be open include the bank, Alaska Seaplanes, You Say Tomato, the US Post Office, Grizzly's, Skagway Hardware and Fairway Market.
All municipal facilities are closed.
Non-critical businesses may reopen provided a mitigation plan has been approved by the borough manager Brad Ryan.
