State Troopers investigating Russian Mission shooting

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - An investigation continues as Alaska State Troopers received a report Wednesday morning in the Western Alaska community of Russian Mission, that a man had been shot.

    A Trooper response flight was delayed that morning, they were able to arrive later that afternoon close to 2 p.m. and conducted a preliminary investigation.

    The preliminary investigation revealed that six people were returning from a boat trip at around 3 a.m. when they came upon three armed men hiding in the woods waiting for them.

    According to the Trooper dispatch, A fight ensued over a shotgun and the firearm discharged, and a second shooter fired a shotgun that struck a man, but the injured man was able to flee and was transported to a village clinic. He was later medevaced to an Anchorage area hospital.

    The rest of the boating party retreated to a residence, but shortly after, five shotgun rounds were fired into the building which had four adults and seven children inside. No one was injured as all the occupants had taken cover.

    The suspects fled the area and were not located by Troopers.
